High Court stops disqualification of presidential aspirant Grace Poe

SC chief issues 2 TROs against Comelec rulings

MANILA (PhilAmPress) -- The Supreme Court (SC) stopped the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday, Dec. 28, from enforcing its decision that disqualified Senator Grace Poe-Llamanzares from running in the 2016 presidential polls. This after the SC issued two separate temporary restraining orders (TROs) stopping the Comelec en banc from removing Poe’s name in the list of presidentiables in next year’s national elections.

Poe immediately lauded the decision of the High Court for acting expeditiously on her petitions, adding she was humbled and grateful for issuing the TROs. “I thank the Supreme Court for a just and compassionate decision. From the start, I had put my full faith in the judicial process. The Comelec denied our people their choices in an open election but I am confident that the Supreme Court will uphold the truth and the spirit of the Constitution,” said Poe. The TRO prevents Comelec from disqualifying Poe and removing her name from the ballot in the 2016 election. This also means that Poe, for now, remains a candidate for president.

Members of Congress Need to Spend More Time on Capitol Hill

It’s never too late to change

January 1, 2016 In 1914, more than a century ago, the German Army was advancing into French territory along a 27-mile stretch of land known as the “Western Front.” The French and the British armies were fiercely defending French territory in trenches along a 200-foot narrow strip called “No Man’s Land” that separates them from the Germans who were dug in on the other side. ..more »

..more»

All about foods

January 1, 2016 Some companies irradiate their meats to prevent food-borne illnesses. At the legally prescribed level, irradiation is effective and safe. However, some people are uncomfortable about it. In the United States, the Radura symbol (international symbol for radiation) must be on the label of foods that are irradiated, together with the wording “treated by radiation” or “treated with radiation.” Science has shown over the past several decades that the irradiated food items are safe for consumption. Does MSG have to be listed too?..more»

Sharing the Spirit of Christmas Where Can It Take Us in the New Year?

January 1, 2016 We are swamped in commercialism at Christmas time - even more so this year when Americans are spending more than ever since 2007. But, perhaps, like me, you have paused to ponder that this is a time for giving, sparing a thought for the needy. Also, in a time of goodwill and good cheer, it is a time for sharing - particularly with those we are seemingly much at odds with in the world. If we look around us far enough, we will see that surprising things often happen at this time of year. ..more»
