Tinawag namin ang antolohiya na “Ipuipo sa Piging” (“Whirlwind to the Feast”). Walang malinaw na paksa o tema ang aklat. INVOLVEMENT THE PRICE OF FREEDOM
Politics isn’t a game. Political office is a vocation, civic ministry, and a ‘religious’ experience. Voters HOPE that those they elect will do their duties as expected though the only way to make sure is to RUN FOR OFFICE YOURSELF. Reader I can’t emphasize this enough. INVOLVEMENT IS THE PRICE OF FREEDOM and apathy is its own ‘reward.’ If you don’t get INVOLVED in the political process (voting, canvassing, etc.) don’t complain when politicians ignore you. GOD knows Fil-Ams desperately need more voices in ‘city hall’ than they have now. Continue reading
Hiring by Private Sector, Offset by Government Layoff

There’s no relief in sight for the economic crisis that’s being exacerbated by weak hiring by private sector in September and the unrelenting layoffs of federal, state, municipal and other local government workers in nearly three decades. While companies added an estimated 75,000 jobs last month, it’s hardly enough to bring much relief to the nation’s 15 million unemployed. The government layoff resulted in a net loss of 95,000 jobs. It seems like the die is cast for the majority of the incumbent Democratic lawmakers facing the midterm elections. However, congressional Republicans should not be too overconfident of their chances because majority of the American voters are calling for the heads of almost all incumbent lawmakers regardless of party affiliation. Simple Simplicity

In a complex world of multi-tasking, parallel networking, social hubs, and a myriad other technical loops of virtual space, simplicity has been slowly misconceived and degraded into the ranks of dullness and boredom. I remember an old editor who used to tell me not to send him to the library every time I wrote. I thought writing skills were limited to a broad spectrum of fancy words. I did just that and got nowhere. He painstakingly affixed a circled “R” to every manuscript I made; ‘rejecting’ what I mistakenly thought was something that exceeded understanding. Continue reading

‘Pigging Out on Barrels of Pork’

“Pork’ in budget doubled,” headlines a newspaper. It says that on top of each of the 278 congressmen’s P70-million “pork barrel” from the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), they will each be given an extra P75 million to be used for infrastructure projects in their districts. The extra pork barrel for each congressman consists of P50 million from the budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and another P25 million from the Road User’s Tax. Can’t Ignore the Barangay Election

Philippines has just concluded its latest elections – that of the chairmen and councilmen and youth leaders of more than 42,000 barangays, the smallest local government unit in the country.
While the election was supposed to be non-partisan, at least 78 election-related violence were recorded by the Philippine National Police, with casualties of 39 killed and 14 wounded, many of them candidates for barangay chairmen and councilmen. Continue reading
