Boracay tourism revenue breaches P12 billion

ILOILO CITY – World-famous Boracay Island posted more than P 12 billion in revenue as of October this year.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) here said that Boracay’s revenue, mainly due to tourism, has reached P 12.17 billion as of the third quarter. DOT said that this is higher compared to last year’s figures. Continue reading

Cebu City earmarks P11M for Sinulog 2011

CEBU CITY – Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said the City Government will earmark at least P11 million for next year’s Sinulog celebration, which is P1 million higher compared to last year’s aid for the event.
The mayor said the fund for the Sinulog, one of the biggest cultural events in the country which draws tens of thousands of local and foreign tourists, will be covered under the proposed 2011 annual budget of the City Government.

Honoring our veterans

November 11, Thursday, was Veterans Day and US soldiers the world over have been honored and the dead commemorated in various ceremonies fit for heroes.
President Barack Obama, currently on his Asian tour, celebrated the special day with US soldiers and their families in Seoul, Korea where he laid a wreath for some 36,000 plus fallen American soldiers who were laid to rest in that part of the globe. Continue reading

‘Pork’ by any other name is still ‘pork’

Recently, members of the House of Representatives were thrown into disarray on the allocation of pork barrel. A small but very vocal group of congressmen threatened to block the 2011 national budget if their pork barrel allocations weren’t increased. What caused the revolt was the disclosure that Gloria was allocated P2.2 billion of pork barrel funds for her 2nd congressional district for the year 2011. To placate them, each of the 278 congressmen were given an additional pork barrel of P50 million from the budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPHW) and another P25 million from the Road User’s Tax.
