ShareThisILOILO CITY – World-famous Boracay Island posted more than P 12 billion in revenue as of October this year.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) here said that Boracay’s revenue, mainly due to tourism, has reached P 12.17 billion as of the third quarter. DOT said that this is higher compared to last year’s figures.
Likewise, DOT said that more than 600 thousand local and foreign tourists have visited the white-sand beaches and various parts of Boracay. This is more than 40 percent higher compared to the number of visitors in 2009, which is just around 470 thousand.
DOT also boast that they have recorded more than 230 thousand foreign tourist who opted to visit Boracay as early as October. DOT said that peak season usually begins by October until the summer season on May where most foreign tourist flocks.
DOT said that this is good news amidst the various travel advisories issued by several countries against visiting in the Philippines. Earlier, US, Australia and United Kingdom issued advisories as precautions on traveling to the country amidst reported terror threats.
DOT data, however, shows that some 11 thousand Americans and more than 5,000 tourist from Australian and UK respectively have been to the island as of October.
DOT regional director Edwin Trompeta, in an interview, said that the tourism industry remains resilient in the region due to its relative peace and security, as well as the attractive tourism packages of various stakeholders and travel agencies.
