10 offices under OP abolished

MANILA — Malacanang has abolished 10 offices under the Office of the President (OP), saying the move to streamline operations would save the government some P304.6 million.
Executive Secretary Pacquito Ochoa Jr. said at the hearing of the appropriations committee of the House of Representatives on the proposed P4.075 billion budget of the OP for 2011, said the amount was 4.3 percent lower than this year’s outlay. Continue reading

That’s how the Philippine men’s team, headed by GMs Wesley So and Eugene Torre, described itself on the eve of the formal opening of the 39th World Chess Olympiad and 81st FIDE Congress in Doha, Qatar.
Venue of the opening ceremony, as well as the tournament proper, is the Khanty-Mansiysk Sports Development Center, a 3,500-seater, 15,558-sq-meter wide center inaugurated only September last year. Continue reading
Roach planes in for Pacquiao training in Baguio

MANILA — Freddie Roach will employ the same formula that will help Manny Pacquiao get past Antonio Margarito on November 13 at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The celebrated trainer, in the country to oversee Pacquiao’s training, made a very rare appearance at the PSA Forum at Shakey’s along UN Avenue.
Roach came with two boxers, Glen Tapia and Manuel Medina, whom he brought in from Los Angeles last Sunday as sparring partners. Two more are coming in soon.

QUEZON CITY – Popular television host, actor and singer Willie Revillame has asked a Quezon City court to declare giant television network ABS-CBN in default of his contract.
Revillame also called for a strike out the network’s “compulsory counterclaims” in the civil case he filed for judicial confirmation of his rescission of contract as Wowowee host. Continue reading
