ShareThisShe’s been in the news almost two weeks because of a nasty rumor about her and boyfriend John Lloyd Cruz, but it was a calm, unruffled Shaina Magdayao who faced the press last week for the launching of her new ABS-CBN series, “Alyna.”
The former child actress decided to address the issue head on. After thanking supporters, she said: “Hindi po totoo ‘yun. Nakakalungkot na mayroong mga tao na, Diyos ko hindi ko alam kung saang parte ng isip nila nakuha ‘yun. I think it’s the most outrageous chismis sa industriya natin. Masyado yata siyang nanonood ng ‘Grey’s Anatomy’.”

Indeed, it must seem strange for the public to hear Shaina talking about such malicious rumor, according to a Malaya report. For a lot, they still remember her as an eight-year-old Rina in “Marinella.” But she has been in show business for 15 years and is now embarking on her most challenging role, as the lead in “Precious Hearts Romances: Presents Alyna.”
Based on the pocketbook “Dominic” by popular novelist Martha Cecilia, the newest afternoon drama will revolve around the life of Alyna, who falls in love with Rex (Sid Lucero) but is later abandoned by him. She falls in love with another man, Dominic (Jason Abalos) but things soon get complicated when Rex returns in her life.
Shaina revealed that it wasn’t hard for her to accept the project even if it was a sensual material.
“As long as I believe in the project, in my director and my leading men, na hindi bastos ‘yung kalalabasan, okay lang sa ‘kin,” she said.
She is joined by two of the most-awarded young actors of today.
Sid said he immediately built a rapport with Shaina even if this is only their first time to work together. He said there were no awkward moments even during their intimate scenes.
“With Shaina, it’s not a problem. We talk about how we would like to attack a scene. We remind each other na ‘I’m supposed to like you here,” he explained.
Jason, meanwhile, is excited to work again with Shaina after their stint in “Kambal sa Uma,” where they were paired.
“Para kay Shaina ‘to. Big step ito para sa career niya,” he said.
Shaina isn’t the only one going the daring route. Kaye Abad, also known for her wholesome image, is playing an off-beat role in “Alyna.”
“Acting wise, mas mature na ‘yung role ko. May twist kasi ‘yung character na hindi ko pa nagagawa sa mga nagdaang role ko. Doon ako na-e-excite,” shared Kaye
Directed by F.M. Reyes, “Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Alyna” starts this afternoon, 4:15, after “Rosalka” on ABS-CBN.
