Lovi Poe’s close encounter with ghosts

Four years in showbiz and Lovi Poe has already carved a niche of her own.
The daughter of action king Fernando Poe, Jr. will forever be proud of her formidable showbiz lineage, but she refuses to exist only behind the shadow of her famous dad.

Starting as a host of GMA’s “SOP,” she went on to invade acting, starring in a number of TV programs and even winning acting awards for her big screen performances, where she headlined a number of major and indie films.

Lovi’s pretty face and sexy curves did not also escape the eyes of clothing mogul Ben Chan, who signed up the actress to endorse Bench undergarments. Her big billboard along EDSA has attracted many people, making her a good product endorser.

Maybe it was also her charms that made her attractive to the real ghosts in the haunted mansion in Baguio, where she filmed Regal’s horror thriller, “White House,” according to a Malaya report.

Lovi reportedly experienced dealing with ghosts and other spirits while filming the movie, directed by Topel Lee. Even the production staff and her co-stars on the set noticed Lovi’s creepy dalliance with the supernatural. Yet, the encounter didn’t freak out the young star.

“Seksi-seksihan kasi siya, at ngiti siya nang ngiti, na ang feeling nga ng mga tao sa paligid niya ay nilalandi siya ng mga multo. Seksi nga kasi siya, kaya hindi kataka-taka na pati mga multo ay naakit sa kanya,” relates a member of the crew.

“White House” is not Lovi’s first horror movie. Three years ago, she starred in an episode of “Shake, Rattle and Roll,” also produced by Regal.

In “White House,” she is April, a prostitute who becomes one of the six contestants in a reality show shot inside the haunted mansion. At stake for the winner is P1 million, but as every night draws to a close, the contestants realize their lives are also on the line. The reality show eventually becomes a battle for survival.

Gabby Concepcion leads the stellar cast as the psychic consultant who helps the production team and reality show contestants in dealing with the ghosts inside the White House. Maricar Reyes is the TV show producer, with Janus del Prado as her associate.

Iza Calzado plays the violent black lady out to seek vengeance for the death of her loved ones. Joem Bascon, Mo Twister, Megan Young, Jairus Aquino and Sarah Lahbati complete the cast.

“White House” starts its theater run on Oct. 13. Star-studded premiere night is on Oct. 11, 7:30 p.m. at SM Megamall Cinema 9.
