Cpmedy and box-office queen Ai-Ai de las Alas has won the best actress award from the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS).
Ai-ai received the award at the FAMAS Awards held last Saturday at the National Commission on Culture and Arts auditorium, becoming the first comedienne to receive the Best actress trophy since FAMAS was launched in 1952.
Ai-Ai said she did not expect to get the award from FAMAS and other award-winning bodies.
“Siyempre, unexpected kong sa akin ibibigay ng FAMAS ang best actress award. Kumbaga, nagkaroon pa ako ng huling hirit sa ending ng 2011. FAMAS is FAMAS, ’di ba? Kahit ano pa ang sabihin nila. Thank you, Lord!” she said.
The FAMAS award is actually Ai-Ai’s third best actress trophy for the year.
She was named best actress in the recent Philippine Movie Press Club Star Awards for Movies for the movie “Ang Tanging Ina Ninyong Lahat! (Last Na ‘To)!”
At the PMPC Star Awards for Television she emerged as best drama actress for a “Maalaala Mo Kaya?” episode and best comedy actress for her and Aga Muhlach’s now-defunct sitcom, “Malay Mo, Ma-develop?,” on ABS-CBN.
Ai-Ai admitted that it will be difficult to duplicate her performance last year in the 2011 MMFF entry, “Enteng ng Ina Mo” where she co-stars with box-office king Vic Sotto.
“Ang mag-number one sa takilya ang gusto naming mangyari sa pelikula. Pure fun ang movie at gusto kong mag-enjoy ang buong pamilya habang nanonood, “ she said.
“Hindi na ako naghahangad ng akting award, pero kung ibibigay sa akin uli, bakit ko naman tatanggihan ang grasyang ’yon? Hahaha!” Ai-Ai added.
Ai-ai is regularly seen in ABS-CBN’s “My Binondo Girl” and is a much-sought-after product endorser and concert performer.
Ai-ai admitted that she had long wanted to team up with Vic Sotto.
Vic also said she did not expect that he would co-star with Ai-ai in the Star Cinema and M-ZET Productions offering for the Metro Manila Film Festival this year.
“Hindi ko inaasahan ang pagtatambal namin,” he said, “Parang sinapian ako. Nanunuod ako ng awards night last year, nakita ko si Ai-Ai na nanalo ng best actress at sinabi niya na ‘Isa na lang hinihiling ko kay Lord, magkasama kami ni Bossing.”
“Early this year, I met with Star Cinema at hindi pa tapos ang tanong nila, nag yes na ako,” he added.
In the movie, Vic as Enteng Kabisote wants to retire as perennial hero of Engkantasya and lead a normal life without the magical elements. Ai-Ai as Ina Montecillo, mother of now grown-up children (among them played by Marvin Agustin, Nikki Valdez and Alwyn Uytingco) by different men, looks forward to meeting the right partner to spend the rest of her life with.
Enter the evil fairy Satana who casts a spell on Enteng to make her fall for another woman so as to destroy his happy family life. Inevitably, Enteng and Ina’s paths cross. They fall for each other. But just when their relationship is turning serious, Ina discovers that Enteng has another family. Initially, Ina’s children resist having Enteng in their mom’s life. They are ready to accept him when their mom makes the “shocking” discovery.
Directed by Tony Reyes, “Enteng ng Ina Mo” mixes comedy and fantasy, with the characters of Enteng and Ina getting into an out of each other’s different worlds.
One of the movie’s funny scenes show Vic and Ai-Ai kissing, only for their long chins getting stuck in each other, ending up doing not a lips-to-lips kiss but a chin-to-chin smack.
Vic’s previous outings as Enteng Kabisote (last year with Bong Revilla in “Si Enteng Kabisote at Si Agimat,” also shown at the Metro Filmfest) were blockbusters and so are those of Ai’Ai’s “Tanging Ina” starrers (last year, she won best Actress for “Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na ‘To”).
“I don’t wish to win another Best Actress award,” said Ai-Ai. “Tama na sa akin na maging top grosser kami.”
