Lakas-Kampi-CMD reorganization up

Aug 6, 2010

MANILA – Beleaguered by resignations of its members who jumped to other political parties, the Lakas-Kampi-CMD party is set to conduct reorganization to fill in vacant posts and set its agenda in both Houses of Congress. House Minority Leader and Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman said that aside from filling up vacant posts, the reorganization is aimed at calling for the members’ commitment to the party’s platform. He said the planned reorganization will be discussed in a meeting set on Saturday in Quezon City, where party members of the national executive council, including governors and city mayors all over the country, are expected to attend.

Lagman said the party is also expected to identify the agenda to be pursued, including priority measures of the minority bloc in the House of resentatives and the Senate. In an earlier party caucus held at Clarkfield, Pampanga, majority of Lakas- Kampi-CMD members expressed the need to conduct reorganization to fill in vacancies left by members who have allied with other political parties. Quezon Rep. Danilo Suarez is being eyed as party chairman, to replace former president and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo; while Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez will be the new party president. Bohol Rep. Erico Aumentado is expected to replace Raymundo Roquero as secretary general as the latter will re-assume his previous post as executive director. Suarez, however, said that the former president would likely keep her post as the party chairperson. “I don’t think she (Arroyo) will be replaced, but that will be resolved in our meeting this Saturday,” he said. Lagman also said that Mrs. Arroyo remains the incumbent party chairperson, adding that it would be up to her if she wants to stay at the helm of Lakas-Kampi-CMD.
