DBM: Proposed 2011 budget will not exceed P1.7 Trillion

MANILA — Budget Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad disclosed that the proposed 2011 national budget will not exceed the original proposal of P1.7 trillion. This was announced by Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda, adding that Abad held a presentation to President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III on the proposed 2011 budget in a Cabinet meeting at the Bahay Pangarap, the official Presidential residence. Abad he said is revising the proposed 2011 budget to ensure that the next year’s budget is geared “toward correct spending” which is transparent, with accountability and for good governance.

Lacierda also said President Aquino is actively participating in the discussion on the proposed budget with other Cabinet members. He added the Aquino government will submit the proposed 2011 national budget on or before August 25. The budget sector will get the biggest appropriations under the 2011 budget, Lacierda also stressed. The Presidential spokesman also confirmed that included in the proposed 2011 budget is the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) or pork barrel of members of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
