Preparing For Christmas
by Carmelita Cochingco Ballesteros.
November 21, 2010
“Why are you so afraid, you of little faith?” (Matthew 8:26) Jesus was asleep in a boat with his disciples. Suddenly, a storm surged from nowhere; big waves threatened to swallow up the boat, and the disciples were terrified. In a panic, they woke up Jesus and begged Him to save them. Continue reading
Thanksgiving Memories Part 1:Turkey Tales
by Arnold De Villa
November 21, 2010
Next to 4th of July, I believe that Thanksgiving Day is the most celebrated holiday among Americans. Among the various holidays in America, many foreign born Americans find this feast a very appealing American tradition. Despite historical aberrations, the commemoration of giving thanks crosses religious boundaries and ethnic differences. In a land built through immigrants, there is always something to be grateful for. Continue reading

VOODOO CONNECTION
Last week we discussed the 10,000 year history of the Voodoo religion. The article covered Voodoos’ origins in Africa, its’ spread to Mesopotamia (Iran and Iraq), the Americas, Philippine Islands, and throughout the globe. I reminisced about my mother’s brief apprenticeship to a Voodoo priestess when she was a young girl and my family’s deep Voodoo connection that endures to this day. Continue reading

Continue reading

by Dr. Philip S. Chua.
November 21, 2010
A cancer scare being widely circulated, allegedly from Johns Hopkins and Walter Reed Army Medical Center, warns the public that: (A) “Plastic containers or plastic wraps and bags release dioxin, a carcinogenic (cancer-producing) chemical, which contaminates the food items in contact with them, either on the countertop, in the microwave oven, or in the refrigerator or freezer…and (B) that frequent exposure to dioxin increases the incidence of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and reproductive and developmental problems.” Continue reading

by Rodel Rodis
November 13, 2010
I wanted to write about something else entirely this week but this issue just doesn’t quit. When I wrote “The Silence of the Eagles” on Tuesday, November 2, the “Memo to the Loyola Schools Community” had not yet appeared in the Internet so I was not able to read it and refer to it in my piece.
