To celebrate both occasions and to cap the year 2010, SamaSama Project has put together a MAJOR MAJOR show that showcases Filipino Music and Arts with the best of Filipino-American artists in the Chicagoland area.
This year, inspired by the warm response from last year’s concerts and their little musical comedy bit called “Patalastas the Mini-Musical”, SamaSama Project is debuting their 1st ever Musical-Concert entitled
Sarsuela Ni Lola (Grandma’s Musical)

Sarsuela Ni Lola is a funny and heartwarming story weaved into music and dance about Carlo, a Fil-American who comes home to the Philippines for the first time since he left as a young teen and finds himself coming to terms with the past he left behind guided by his mischievous but thoughtful and loving Lola (Grandma).
Sarsuela Ni Lola will feature Original Pilipino Music (OPM) and traditional Filipino folk songs such as Sinisinta Kita, Waray Waray, Mambobola, Manila, Sa Kabukiran, Sa Ugoy Ng Duyan, Gaano Ko Ikaw Kamahal, Ang Huling El Bimbo and many more.

Behind this production is a group of Chicago-based veteran actors (Philippines and US) and talented young artists who ALL voluntarily put in their time, abilities, effort and resources (yes, even financial) to come up with this one of a kind show. SSP funds (though in rare cases borrow) its own props, costumes, technical gear, sets and other logistical expenses. Despite having no financial backing, they are all inspired to pursue this brave and costly production in the interest of promoting our Filipino culture through music, dance and the arts in a way that can be easily embraced even by those who are not familiar with it.
