Election Day Special (The New Politics!)

“One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.” -Plato

With the demise of the Warsaw Pact, Communism in the West is as dead as fried chicken. Only a façade of the ideology that once held half the world hostage nearly 100 years is no more though remnants remain in Cuba and China. As with the case of the school yard bully who’s shipped out to Boot Camp or ‘Scared Straight’ programs, there’s always another to fill his/her shoes. Militant Islam has filled the shoes of world Communism shoes some say was designated for Christianity. Though militant Islam has fired intense hatred/fear of the Muslim world, it sparked renewed interest in American religion. Anxieties over America’s worsening economy and stagnant job market were contributing factors. Renewed spiritual awareness has seized the American mind. The religious debate has become the rallying cry across the United States though felt strongest in the political arena. The faiths of President Obama and challenger Mitt Romney have become focal points in the upcoming presidential elections.
Candidate Mitt Romney’s Mormonism has disquieted many Americans. Some surmise if elected Mr. Romney will rule the United States like a branch of international Mormonism forsaking traditional American values if they disagree with the tenets of Mormonism a church many consider cultic. Will he adhere to traditional Republican policies that cater to the whims and will of the rich yet neglect the poor? Is President Barak Obama a secret Muslim as Conservative media pundits have accused him? Has the president declared a war of wit and will against American Catholicism and Evangelical Protestantism with his insistence on forcing religious health care institutions to sever ties with their respective denominations over controversial women’s health issues?
Recently I conducted a private political poll. It took me four months using the Internet. My polling revealed that an overwhelming majority of the American people distrust/dislike President Obama and challenger Mitt Romney. Many people consider both charlatans of the lowest order. With great reluctance the people of the United States will vote for one man on Election Day. It’s comparable to a starving person who dreams of dining on steak and lobster but settling for baloney on white bread without mayo or a hotdog with Ketchup. America’s voters have adopted an ‘any port in the storm’ mentality which will soon show itself on Election Day.
Last month September 23rd Catholic auxiliary Bishop Thomas Paprocki said, “Much attention was given at the Democratic National Convention held recently in Charlotte, N.C., to the fact that all references to God had been purged from the draft version of the party platform. After outcries of protest from outside as well as within the Democratic Party, the sentence with the same reference to God used in 2008 was restored to read, ‘We need a government that stands up for the hopes, values and interests of working people, and gives everyone willing to work hard the chance to make the most of their God-given potential.’” The liberal Hollywood and media elites have placed all bets on President Obama to win reelection. According to conservative hype the President appears to have a serious problem with GOD and Christianity, this country’s dominant religion. Reader whenever you get the chance please read Bishop Paprocki’s September 23rd pastoral letter. It was passed out in many Catholic churches last month. Search the Internet for your copy. I further recommend that you investigate your denominations views on the President’s controversial edict.
Republican challenger Mitt Romney’s Mormonism appears to be his primary drawback. Romney’s perceived as a cold hearted millionaire who has it in for America’s middle class. The Church of the Latter Day Saints (Mormon) has long been held in deepest suspicion by many. Since Saints founding on April 6th, 1830 LDS (Latter Day Saints) members have been seen as contrary to all that is American particularly in their views on that political thorn plaguing the American Puritanical mind set…SEX. Mormons were staunch defenders of plural marriage to the point of bloodshed decades before nixing their polygamy clause to gain Utah statehood. Some Saints still secretly practice plural marriage. Mitt Romney’s recent ancestors were polygamists. Reader I suggest before making snap generalizations on Mormons, please go to www.historyofmormonism.com. That site’s a clearing house for all things Mormon. You can speak to an LDS member who’ll answer questions on Mormonism. In 1983 I spent several days in Salt Lake City the Mormon ‘Vatican.’ As mentioned in an earlier travel article I wrote, I stayed in a hotel facing the LDS main temple! After early Sunday Mass and breakfast I spent my entire day on Tabernacle grounds learning as much as I could about Mormonism. I’m of the opinion that many men in this country if given a choice would gladly take on additional wives. I’ve had three (but only one at a time).
The president’s primary political problem, outside of his inexperience, the nation’s declining economy, and high unemployment rate is also…SEX. The whole issue of women’s rights to choose (female reproductive issues) President Obama wants religious institutions to ‘green light (fund via medical insurance)’ abortions, contraceptive devices, other aforementioned sex related issues, and back gay marriage.
This upcoming presidential election will be crucial. It will redefine/redirect the course of our country. The outcome will impact future elections. The damnable fact of the matter is that both men (writer’s opinion) may not have America’s best interests at heart. We’re in a Catch 22 (no win) with nowhere to go but down.
Are Republican and Democratic parties’ two sides of the same political coin? The same con (confidence game) under different labels; I think so. American politics is in low ebb. ‘We the people’ don’t count for much in 2012. We’re sacrificing our voices (votes) on an altar of political corruption, greed and apathy. This nation has long ceased being a democratic republic founded on Jeffersonian principles. Somewhere in the early part of the onset of the 20th century America got lost. With each election we exchange one set of crooks for another. Democracy dies piecemeal as super-rich plutocrats seize political office after office. Someday soon we may find ourselves shouting ‘Sieg heil dum Fuhrer’ instead of ‘Hail to the Chief.’
In the November edition of ‘Harpers Magazine,’ there’s an article by Victoria Collier titled: ‘How to Rig an Election-The G.O.P. aims to paint the country red.’ The writer illustrates in vivid detail how elections are stolen. Ms. Collier supplies readers with plenty of names/examples. After reading her stirring examples of how our elections are rigged you may stay home on Election Day which in my opinion will be a drastic miscalculation. I don’t have word space to elaborate but Victoria does. Along with her lurid examples of election fraud she lists practical solutions in dealing with shady electioneering.
Next time we’ll discuss the politics of education something I promised three editions ago. Politics of education will illustrate how politicking has all but destroyed public education in this country. GOD bless you, and please vote!
