Cagayan de Oro’s ‘Kagay-an’ festival starts



CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Thousands of people from all walks of life, including visitors, guests, and tourists – both foreign and local – will troop to the main thoroughfares in this city to witness the various shows and activities of the 2012 “Kagay-an” Festival Parade which started Sunday.
Organizers of this year’s event will showcase one of the longest parades ever made with at least 110 contingents representing various national government offices, 11 public schools and 14 private schools, civic groups and organizations, and private companies.
The Philippine National Police, Philippine Army, Maritime Police, Coast Guard, Boy Scouts of the Philippines, Mindanao Shriners, and a contingent from the various municipalities of Misamis Oriental are also expected to join today’s activity along the streets of this city.
The whole city officialdom  headed by Mayor Vicente Y. Emano, the City Legislative Body led by Vice Mayor Caesar Ian E. Acenas, and the city government’s department heads, are spearheading the contingent of the local government in this big event.
The city government is eyeing  a record in the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest parade to be participated by more than 10,000 revellers.
Along the city streets, six contingents are competing in this year’s Golden Float Parade, namely MLhuillier Philippines, Concentrix Corporation, International Pharma, Inc., Jatico Adventure Park, Oro Builders Eagle’s Club, and Misamis Oriental Congressional District 1 and District 2 offices.
Local officials said spectators will have the opportunity to see colorful floats from the various companies and non-government organizations participating in the parade.
Drum and Bugle Corps from the Liceo de Cagayan University, Blessed Mother College, Macabalan National High School, Agusan National High School, Camp Evangelista Elementary School, Kauswagan Central School, Kuyanap-DBC, Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School, Pedro “Oloy” Roa Sr. High School, Cagayan de Oro National High School, Lapasan National High School, Bayabas Elementary School; Camaman-an National High School, Gusa Regional Science High School, City Central School, Pilgrim Christian College, and Bayanga National High School will be adding a festive mood to the expected longest parade
