DAVAO CITY- Hotels in Davao City are now fully-occupied as the main event for Kadayawan sa Dabaw festival celebration gets nearer.
Department of Tourism (DOT) regional director Art Boncato said they gathered reports from hotel establishments on their recent bookings.
The August festivities showcase Davao’s bounty and cultural activities.
Boncato said the peak will be towards the weekend especially that “we have a long week-end”.
Davao City Tourism and City Investment and Promotion head Jason Magnaye also shared the same observation, adding that the city is expecting an influx of tourists, both domestic and foreign, in time for the Kadayawan festivities.
He said they pegged figures for the weekend event to be at 70,000 visitors.
The hotels here are also showcasing Davao’s bounty of fruits and flowers and ethnic crafts like weaving right at their lobby for the guests to appreciate.
The most awaited part of the celebration is the float parade or the “Pamulak sa Kadayawan” which is the grand finale of the 27th Kadayawan sa Dabaw Festival. It is the showcase of the blooming flowers and ripening of fruits in a floral float parade and competition.
There will be two categories for the competition, namely big and small floats, which will parade Davao City’s main streets on August 19 starting at 7:00 a.m.
On the other hand, DOT Davao is launching activities here that focus on the “It’s more fun in the Philippines” slogan to be led by Tourism Secretary Ramon R. Jimenez, Jr. himself.
The Secretary will be riding an “It’s More Fun Taxi” at the entrance of the Matina Town Square then disembark at the Blu Gre Cafe’, where he will sip coffee from an “It’s more fun” mug.
Jimenez will also grace the opening of the Mindanao Travel and Tour Expo at SM City Davao on Friday, to be participated in by key players in the tourism and trade related industries from all over the country and some international guest exhibitors.
