The ‘Anonymous’ organization is a key player in the Occupy Movement. They help organize, plan, and fund Occupy. Anonymous drafted a survivor’s guide for citizens and activists caught in the crossfire between battling forces. The guide instructs how to handle tear gas attacks, incoming ordinance, and warn of the dangers of armed insurrection. The kit cautions against romanticizing the notion of armed resistance. The guide warns that though your cause may be legitimate you can still lose. The repercussions that ensue after failed insurrections are too horrible to contemplate. I’m telling you this just so you’d know. Reader, as in larger life you take your chances, though with revolutions the stakes are much higher.
Here’s a sampling of the downloadable survival guide published by the Anonymous group:
“In a full scale revolution the police will not help you or may even be your enemy depending on the situation.”
“Band together into small squads with people you know as friends. That way you recognize infiltrators, like fake civilians, as was seen at the G20 summit in Canada.”
“Don’t panic, stay cool headed.”
“Take a break and rest if your body needs to relax, lack of sleep is a major weakening factor.”
“Avoid consuming mind altering substances like alcohol and drugs. They will cloud your judgment and ability to think and act rationally. You are also arming the regime with propaganda that the crowd is made up of a bunch of intoxicated rioters. Don’t allow your movement to be portrayed in an unfavorable light.”
“Find a secure water supply and purchase long-lasting foods such as canned goods, rice, dry grains, potatoes, noodles, dried pasta or lentils.”
Protesters should arm themselves with cameras, including video phones, but warns those with recorders to “be covert because journalists are prone to be attacked.”
The guide offers tips on how to fend against tear gas attacks (moving against the wind and wearing synthetic fibers), to deflect rubber bullets by using garbage can tops as shields, wearing ski clothes, and using motorcycle/motocross equipment to soften the bullets impact as they painfully bounce off your body.
In the event live ammunition is fired into the crowd the guide suggests an immediate retreat. If you hang around after the shooting starts and get shot it’s on you; it’s your own fault so RUN!!
“In general the final stage of defense for a government is to use live ammunition against its citizens. If it is used the regime is nearing its end.”
The kit includes how protestors should conduct themselves during confrontations with legal authorities, future planned cyber attacks, and a lot of other pertinent information for revolutionists-in-training. Reader, if you want to read the survival guide in its in entirety please go to: ‘anonymous hackers guide to revolution’ in your search engine. (Source: Aaron Klein www.weaselzippers.us and Brenda J. Government/Political oppression in this writer’s opinion started eons ago when we were cave creatures. It was when the tribe’s brawniest hunter got together with lesser hunters and started bullying the kind and gentler tribe’s people into submission. In time the head hunter became the chief and the other hunters, his lieutenants. For the services of the prettiest tribeswomen, the most meat, comfortable hearths, and other services the chief gave the tribe protection from predators human and animal, adequate shelter heard their complaints and addressed their grievances. As humanity progressed chiefs became kings, emperors, presidents, tyrants, and formed law courts to address the latter.
The foundation of government and religion could be surmised in one word: FEAR. With government it was fear of personal annihilation. With religion it was fear of death. With the coming of the great teachers (Abraham, Buddha, Confucius, Jesus Christ, and Mohammad) the great fears were supplanted with love of the Teacher and service to the people. With government fear evolved into a slavish mentality to serve the ruler. Government assumed and in some cases replaced priestly religion with one purely secular in content; case in point the cult of ‘Dear Leader’ of North Korea. In today’s world Science and Technology is giving both Government and Religion a run for their monies as they assume the positions of both.
Successful revolutions generally replace corrupt regimes with those yet more corrupt. The French Revolution spawned the Reign of Terror and subsequent Napoleonic Wars. These tragedies cost France and the world millions in human lives.
After the American Revolution in short time the victors slaughtered hundreds of thousands of native peoples and Mexicans. The intense fall out caused by Black slavery is still with us today.
Haiti was formed on January 1st 1804. Due to poor financial policies the victorious Haitians pawned itself back to France. The first republic in the Americas is one of the most impoverished nations on earth.
The European Revolutions of 1848 aka The Spring of Nations overthrew dozens of European monarchies and their Latin American counterparts. In the end very little if anything was accomplished as old monarchs and new despots’ assumed novel ways of controlling their minions.
After 20 years of hard fighting Mao Tse-Tung took small bands of peasant farmers, a pitiful few urban intellectuals and harnessed them into one of the world’s most potent fighting machines. Mao’s people fought battles as vicious as Stalingrad and a ‘Long March’ that rivaled Alexander the Great’s. China evolved into a state that tortured and murdered millions. Communists in Russia operated in similar fashion, achieved the same results, and emerged into a state that topped the czars in cruelty and despotism.
All human endeavors no matter how noble will fail unless there’s a solid moral underpinning supporting them. The voice of the people may indeed be the Voice of GOD. Even the Voice of the Almighty relies on people who are humble and open enough to listen.
Filipinos are no strangers to revolution. Their first was with colonialist Spain during the 1890’s and two more at the dawn of the new millennium. Through all the pain and sorrow it was hoped that our brothers/sisters back home would have brought about the desired change that all true revolutionists fight, hope and pray for. Till next time GOD bless and take care of yourself.
