Palace unfazed with Arroyo’s proposal to revive Cha-cha

July 2, 2010 MANILA – Malacanang is unfazed with the move of Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in filing a proposal to amend the 1987 Constitution.

“It’s not something we are bothered with. We are aware that her heart has always been to amend the Constitution,” Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said.

He noted that President Benigno Simeon Aquino III would possibly call for a meeting with his partymates at the Liberal Party to discuss the matter, but clarified that they will “let the legislative process take its course.”

“It’s possible, but we don’t know yet. Party leaders will inform him (President Aquino) about her plans and it’s something that we will be dealing with our partners in Congress,” Lacierda said.

“Like in any other case, it’s a matter of numbers. If we are able to convince them that this is not the time to amend the Constitution, then that’s under the water,” he added.
