Homosexual Filipinos-Part One
“I’d rather be black than gay because when you’re black you don’t have to tell your mother.”
-Charles Pierce-
THE GAY EXPLOSION
At the time of this writing it will be Gay Pride Week that time of the year when the gay/lesbian community ‘strut their stuff’ at various Gay Pride Parades held in cities around the world. (Go to: www.chicagopridecalendar.org to view various gay pride events in Chicago). The Filipino Channel’s TFC ‘TV Patrol’ made special mention of the growing acceptability of homosexuality on their morning program this past March 14th. The report focused its attention on how gays/lesbians were accepted members in the country’s religious communities. ‘TV Patrol’ interviewed gay members of the Community Church of the Philippines and their pastor.
People once cringed in horror at the very thought of being labeled ‘queers,’ ‘faggots’, ‘booty snatchers,’ and other derogatory terms. Homosexuals have come out of their ‘closets.’ Homosexuality is fashionable. Homosexuals are proud of being who they are and are flaunting it in increasing numbers in print, gay/lesbian websites, religious communities, and the mass media. Filipino homosexuals have joined ranks with gays/lesbians globally.
WHY GAYS/LESBIANS?
For thousands of years ‘straights’ (heterosexuals) have scratched their heads in bewilderment and asked themselves, “Why on earth would anybody want to be a homosexual with so many good looking women/men available?” Medically speaking, “’Most researchers agree that homosexuality is multi-causal and complex; many factors contribute to the development of same-sex attraction. Most researchers, including Dr. Dean Hamer, the ‘gay gene’ researcher who is himself a gay man, agree that homosexuality, like most other psychological conditions, is due to a combination of social, biological, and psychological factors. Dr. Hamer has said, “Genes are hardware…the data of life’s experiences is processed through the sexual software into the circuits of identity. I suspect the sexual software is a mixture of both genes and environment, in much the same way the software of a computer is a mixture of what’s installed at the factory and what’s added by the user. It is also important to note that the combination of factors is different for each person.” The bottom line is that nobody knows for sure why some people are gay/lesbian. (Above source: P. Copeland and D. Hamer (1994) ‘The Science of Desire,’ New York: Simon and Schuster & www.exodusglobalalliance.org.)
GAYS IN THE PHILIPPINES
Reader after visiting the Philippines 12 times I too ask myself that same question why would anybody want to be gay? The Philippine Islands in the words of another writer ‘oozes sex.’ I’ve have never seen so many beautiful… sexy…gorgeous…exotic…delicious women in one country in my entire life except maybe in South America and the Netherlands Antilles. I find it ludicrous for anybody in their right (or wrong) mind to take on same sex lovers in the Philippines. This alone is the main reason why I won’t retire there. I’d die and go straight to Hell for immorality. With all those pretty women I’d be dead and roasting flat in no time. Filipinas are just too damn beautiful which is a reason why I married one. Maria and I will be celebrating our 20th Wedding Anniversary next week.
Unlike the U.S. the supposed ‘land of the free and home of the brave,’ Mr. Nelson Everett Toriano of Pacific News Service (www.indiversity.com) wrote: “Americans often think that the U.S. is one of the world’s most accepting places for gay, lesbian and transgendered people. But a young gay American man finds out differently in the mostly Catholic, socially conservative Philippines.” Many Americans are so damn smug they think their s*** don’t stink. Their arrogant behavior rears its ugly face especially when they travel abroad though their French counterparts hold the title of World’s Most Arrogant Tourists in this man’s opinion.
Many gay and straight Americans falsely accuse the Christian Church of being hostile, homophobic, and intolerant of the gay community. These accusations are a pack of lies! Christianity has always been doctrinally opposed to the homosexual lifestyle but is far removed from condemning homophiles as people. Homosexuals are the Creator’s people too with all attendant human rights, privileges, and responsibilities thereof.
Gays are routinely hunted, tortured, imprisoned, and hung in many Muslim countries yet this is never mentioned in the secularist anti-Christian media; more on that in Part two. The article continued by saying that this gay visitor was: “… surprised to find that in the mostly Catholic society of my homeland, gay culture is more tolerated than in America. From nightlife to the media, baklas (gays) are the norm. The strangest part of the entire experience was realizing that although I’m a gay male, as an American I was uncomfortable with such tolerance.” My guess is that after hearing all that American media bull**** about Christians, Catholics in particular being homophobic, that gay man assumed that upon arrival he’d be met at Ninoy Aquino International Airport by mobs of cross waving fanatics in Inquisition garb, sporting signs that read ‘Death to Queers!’ in one hand and lighted torches in the other. To his utter amazement our gay tourist friend discovered that marvelously Filipino gift of tolerance towards all first hand.
WHAT’S NEXT?
Next edition we’ll conclude our mini-study of the Filipino gay/lesbian lifestyle and its’ influences in contemporary Philippine society. We’ll delve into the coming showdown between the homophile community and Christian Church, its reaction to a lifestyle it considers to be fundamentally disordered, dangerous, and deviant. Also mentioned will be Christianity’s response to homosexuality, gay rights activism, my personal experiences with the homophile community, and this writer’s personal opinions on above said topic. GOD be with you and your family.
