ShareThisDUMAGUETE CITY – Dumaguete City has lined up attractive activities to draw local and foreign tourists for its 5th Kabulakan Festival next month.
The Dumaguete City Tourism office, headed by Tourism Officer Andrey Noel Tumulak, said the festival this year has for its theme “Kabulakan Festival: Nagpakabana, Nagamping sa Bahandi sa Kinaiyahan”.
This year’s theme focuses on the environment which translates as to be aware and to take care of nature’s treasures. The theme itself is a contemporary response to the many environmental issues that have surfaced throughout the country, said Tumulak.
Dumaguete City has always maintained its commitment to the preservation of the environment. The city strives to always, in one way or another, incorporate the environment in all its activities.
The yearly event will kick off on May 3 and will feature various activities all throughout the month of May. The city tourism office is making major preparations for the month-long event in the hopes of promoting the provincial culture and boosting tourism.
Events such as the Agro Fair, on May 19-20, the Barangay and Schools Tree Planting activity, from May 23-28, and the Flower arrangement Competition, on May 7, highlight the environmental theme of the Festival.
The festival also doubles as an unveiling celebration for the newly beautified Rizal Boulevard and the “Hardin sa Barangay”. These launching events will be held on opening day on May 3.
The main festival event will be the “Kabulakan Festival Streetdancing Showdown and the Festival Parade on May 21. These events have since been the cornerstone of the annual celebration. The Streetdance and Parade will feature Barangay contingents from all over the city competing for the best theme based street dance performance.
Tumulak and the rest of the Dumaguete city Tourism office remain positive that the celebration will be a success.
