Newly Opened “Sariling atin” Filipino Restaurant Wows Diners with Authentic Philippine Dishes

As soon as the signage “Sariling Atin” went up, FilAm diners like me have made a mental note to check it out one day. So, one night, when we saw the place lighted and its door open, my friends and I excitedly parked in the strip mall at 8702 West Golf Road in Niles where Sariling Atin is located. Unfortunately, the restaurant wasn’t really open yet. It was only open that night for a private birthday party.

Finally, on March 3, 2011, co-owners Ruben Papelera, Roger and Sofie Dionisio, and Ryan and Aireen Adorable opened Sariling atin’s door to the public.  It’s been a month since then – and what a ride it has been.

“Business is really good”, Ruben says. The continuous stream of customers kept him busy that he hasn’t had time to do his paper works.  But Ruben is not complaining.

Sariling atin is a “breath of fresh air“.  They have a lot of food selection – all authentic according to my taste buds.  Their “Igado” is the best in Chicago – very authentic Ilocano. Their Kare-kare is yum, yum – with a distinct flavor that sets it apart from the ordinary recipes you’ve had in your entire life.  Everything is VERY GOOD!  You have to come and visit Sariling atin to find out.

The friendly owners, who happen to be my “Kababayans” from Midsayap, Cotabato are all young entrepreneurs with fresh ideas and the talent (and guts) to execute them.  Already, they have a huge following – and it’s only their first month.  The Filipino community is indeed ready and willing to embrace these “new kids on the block”.  After all, they are “Sariling atin” – our very own.  See you folks there.
