ShareThisILOILO CITY–- Self determination with passion in sports is a key strength that a player should have to succeed, young actor Sam Concepcion said during the opening of Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association 2011 meet at the Iloilo Sport’s Complex.

Inspired by a retired American boxer and three-time World Heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali’s words of wisdom quoting “champions are not made by gyms”, Concepcion believes that being in sports is one’s pure and strong heart and drive to win and succeed in everyday life.
Concepcion said that this is what makes up the character of boxing icon Manny Pacquiao who remains a true champion in the name of his family and country.
Aside from Pacquiao, Concepcion mentioned other successful sports icons who brought fame to our country like Elma Muros, Lydia de Vega and Paeng Nepomuceno.
“The champions are not only those who get the medals and trophies but also those who have done their best in their respective events,” he added. Concepcion stressed that by doing one’s best, sports becomes a genuine venue for camaraderie, healthy competition and a showcase of what’s best everywhere.
The actor also highlighted that sports functions more than a diplomat in securing more than goodwill, honor and respect for our country.
He advised athletes to be more serious at the world stage. He also encouraged instructors, coaches and sports facilitators to be generous in supporting potential athletes who will be our future champions.
