All-systems go for ‘Pintados de Pasi’ fest


PASSI CITY, Iloilo  — The 13th foundation anniversary celebration of component Passi City in central Iloilo has opened and ends on March 20.

Passi City Mayor Jesry Palmares said that  it is all-systems go for the Pintados de Pasi Festival 2011 and Passi residents will open all doors to welcome visitors.

Guiding the celebration is the theme, “Kulturang Passinhon: Amligan para sa katawhayan kag kauswagan (Protect the Passinhon culture for peace and progress).”

Pintados de Pasi Festival is a weeklong celebration and one of the destination-festivals of theDepartment of Tourism (DOT) every month of March.

Cultural contest and the tribe competition showcase the Passinhon past as depicted in the dances and performances of skillfully tattoed dance warriors.

March 14 opened with a Battle of the Mini-Sound while the evening sees the start of the weeklongfood festival with live bands. The Passi City Government Employees Association (PCGEA) for its part adds up to the fun with the search of “Miss LGU Kuno”.

Day Two on March 15 was talent night for the search of Binibining Pintados. Day Three highlight is Pinta Lawas competition and the search for Ginoong Pintados.

Day Four will see the Pintados de Pasi Cultural Contest while Day Five will see the Karosa Parada and Carabao Painting Contest and the pageant night and grand coronation of Binibining Pintados.

Day Six is the “Sinadya sa Suba” with the festivities set by the Jalaur River near the Passi City BusTerminal.

The big day on Sunday, March 20 will start with a mass at the Parish of St. William followed by the tribe competition. Awarding and closing program follow in the afternoon and will be capped by A Night With STARS, the must-see fireworks display.
