Baguio to pick lucky balikbayans

BAGUIO CITY – Baguio City will hold its annual “Balikbayan Night” next week as a special tribute to homecoming Filipinos from abroad every Christmas season which features concerts and ballroom dancing.

Nars Padilla, chairman of the “Silahis ng Pasko sa Baguio”, a tourism-oriented program for the last 34 years, said the event will be preceded by the selection of the annual “Lucky Balikbayans”.

“As a tradition during Christmas, those selected will be given a red carpet welcome and the best of the amenities which Baguio can offer. They shall become the most honored guests of the yearly ballroom dancing and concerts,” he said.

Likewise, all the homecoming Filipinos during the period are treated with traditional and native food during picnics at the Burnham Park groove.

In previous years, the visiting “balikbayans” are served with favorite delicacies in the area like “lechon”, “pinakbet” and “pinikpikan”.

Also, the honored guests will have the chance to have a courtesy call to City Mayor Mauricio Domogan who would present the symbolic key of the city.

Previous winners of the awards were Filipinos coming from Baguio’s many sister-cities in the world.
