Philippine Consulate General in Chicago Bids Farewell to Consul and Mrs. Roberto T. Bernardo and Protocol Officer Nazario C. Mamalateo


The officers and staff of the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago hosted a farewell luncheon for Consul Roberto T. Bernardo, Collecting Officer Maria Janora M. Bernardo and Protocol and Property Officer Nazario C. Mamalateo on the afternoon of 11 October 2010 in Chicago, Illinois.

Consul Roberto Teylan Bernardo, a Mechanical Engineer by profession, assumed his official duties at the Consulate General on 29 March 2004. He is an alumnus of Mapua Institute of Technology. His spouse, Maria Janora M. Bernardo, the previous Collecting Officer of the Consulate, will travel back to Manila with him. Mrs. Bernardo joined Chicago PCG on the same date as Consul Bernardo. Mr. Nazario Coronel Mamalateo, Protocol and Property Officer of the Consulate General, is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of the East. Mr. Mamalateo is an epitome of hardwork and motivation. He started as a farmer before joining the Foreign Service in 1977. He joined the Chicago team on 03 May 2006. His tour at the Consulate ended on his retirement date on 12 October 2010.

Consul General Herrera-Lim in his brief remarks said “This afternoon, we bid farewell to our colleagues in the Foreign Service who have served the Consulate General and our country with professionalism and utmost dedication. Not many may have known how much you have given in the service of the Republic and the Filipino people. But our program and projects would not have been successful without your support and participation. You leave this city basking in the glory of anonymity. I thank you, Consul Bernardo, Mrs. Bernardo and Mr. Mamalateo for your invaluable efforts and wish all of you the best of luck in your future endeavors.”

The honorees acknowledged the remarks of the Consul General and expressed their appreciation for having the opportunity to work with the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago. Consul and Mrs. Bernardo in their final words said “Thank you for the support, guidance, and encouragement you have provided us during our time at the Consulate. Even though we will miss everyone, we look forward to this new challenge and a new phase of our career.” Mr. Mamalateo likewise said “I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the privilege of working with you these past few years.
