Aug 13, 2010

“I love you honey and I promise you [that] you’ll be the happiest woman.” These were the words of popular singer-composer Ogie Alcasid after he announced that he will soon marry his sweetheart, songbird and actress Regine Velasquez. Ogie even sang a song, an original composition, for her. and the songbird reply with an equally meaningful song. “I really want to marry this woman. That is the desire of my heart,” Ogie even said earlier also on television.

“And should that be granted by God, then I’d probably be the happiest man on earth. That is what we’ve been praying for. If it is granted, then thank you Father. It will be a great blessing. And I promise you (facing Regine) I will make you the happiest woman on earth,” Ogie said. And so, affter seven years of being together, the couple will finally walk down the aisle as Ogie made the announcement in her presence. Ogie himself announced his forthcoming wedding to his girlfriend of seven years on the Sunday variety show “Party Pilipinas” of GMA 7 last Aug. 8. Although the date of the wedding has not been set, it is widely speculated that it will be held on December 22. Ogie, however, has no confirmation on the date yet.

Ogie made the announcement after his petition of annulment of his marriage with his Australian wife Michelle Van Eimeren has been granted. In fact, his ex-wife Michelle has since married her Australian boyfriend Mark Murrow on November 21, 2009 and has been living in Australia with their two children, Leila and Sarah.

Alex Valentin Brosas, reporting for Manila Bulletin, said the singersong- writer was thankful to those who
have been supporting their relationship from the start, including the parents and family of Regine.

Facing Velasquez, he said, “Higit sa lahat, nagpapasalamat ako sa ‘yo (Regine) dahil muli akong lumigaya.” The two then kissed infront of thousands of fans in the studio and those watching the program on television.

Alcasid then sang a song for the love of his life; an original composition that he wrote for her. After Alcasid’s number, the Songbird surprised her boyfriend of seven years with a song.

Jaya, one of the couple’s closest friends, and their co-host on the show, expressed her happiness for the two. “Of course it’s a happy feeling. I’ve always been there. I’ve seen the ups and the downs and ‘yung saya ninyo, ‘yung lungkot ninyo…lalo na sa mga lungkot. I don’t know what to say. I’m so happy,” she said. “You’re (Ogie) such a man for doing this na sa lahat sinabi mo na gusto mo na siyang pakasalan. I’m so happy for the two of you…finally.

“And all we can say is congratulations and may you have a happy life, a happy, happy life,” she said. Regine, who was at that moment, bursting with emotions, said the wedding is just to seal the happiness she’s had with Ogie.

I guess when you really, really love somebody that much, ‘yung mere presence ng tao make you emotional.”

Ogie and Regine disclosed that TV5 top honcho Manny Pangilinan, GMA-7 Chairman and President lawyer Felipe Gozon, GMA Executive Wilma Galvante, Belo Medical Group owner Dra. Vicky Belo, Mega Star Sharon Cuneta, and Cebuano power couple Michel and Amparito Lhuillier will be their wedding sponsors. Ogie added that President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III but will be his groom’s man. The two also revealed that Ogie’s ex-wife Michelle Van Eimeren will be helping out with flower arrangement for the wedding.
