  QUESTIONS OF FAITH

Kingdom of God

Q:

The Scripture teaches us to “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33 KJV

It sounds easy but for those people who are deprived of even the very basic needs to survive, the homeless, jobless, et. al., their instinct is to first seek food, shelter, clothing and job. On the other hand, those who are in a better state or position can pursue more their spiritual enrichment since they didn’t have to worry about their physical survival. It doesn’t seem fair to weigh them on the same scale come judgment time, does it?

A:

It is so easy for the believers to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness because they are the children of God. They have the Spirit of God living in their hearts.

Whereas for the unbelievers, it is totally impossible for them to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness for they are completely ignorant of God. They don’t have the Spirit of God living in them.

We are all created by God but not all of us are God’s children.

When we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and accept Him as our Lord, Savior, and Redeemer, then we become the children of God. “But as many as received Him, to them gave the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.” (John 1:12)

On the other hand, those who do not believe and rejected the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and Redeemer, they are the children of the devil.

“Ye are of your father the devil and the lusts of your father you will do. He was the murderer from the beginning and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own, for he is a liar, and the father of it.” (John 8:44)

The priorities of the believers and unbelievers are different.

The life of a believer is a Christ-centered life. In everything, he gives thanks to the Lord. He can rejoice in the midst of sicknesses and tribulations without a single thread of doubt. In case of a jobless or a homeless situation he does not always lose hope in the Lord. God is reminding him with His comforting words. “Wherefore if God clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the fire, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying what shall we eat? Or what shall we drink? Or Wherewithal shall we be clothe?” (Matthew 6:30-31)

God is the source of everything. When a believer cries out to the Lord, He knows what His child needs before he asks Him. “Be ye not therefore like unto them for your Fatherknoweth what things you have need of before you ask Him.” (Matthew 6:8)

The instinct of a believer is to seek God first before any other things in order to survive in this troubled world. The instinct of the unbeliever is to depend on what he can do first, and does not need God. He will do the best he can thinking he can do it on his own.And he will keep trying harder and harder and he’s not getting anywhere because he puts God aside and God will just watch him struggle alone. When he is all weary and hopeless then he will blame God for his pitiful and miserable life. Without God you cannot do anything and without God you are nothing.

The believers, rich or poor, naturally pursue spiritual enrichment because God is molding them to be Christ-like in thoughts, in words and in deeds.

Material blessings are not anymore the delight of the believers’ hearts. “For what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and lost his own soul.” (Mark 8:36)

Spiritual blessings are much more important in the life of the believers. They are very much blessed and they share the blessings of God to others for His glory and honor.

While the unbelievers are very much enjoying the material blessings and want more and more to survive in this temporary world.

And they are not mindful of spiritual enrichment. Their eyes are blinded by their fatherthe devil, the father of lies.

The Bible verse, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all of these things will be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33) It is only for the believers. You have to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and accept Him as your Lord, Savior and Redeemer. When you become the child of God, your old, stained, broken heart was removed and replaced with a living and beating heart of the Lord Jesus Christ. Come judgment time, there is only one scale and that is God’s scale. He calls the shots and we obey Him with reverence. God is very fair to all of us. He created us so wonderfully in His own image and likeness with a free will. We are not like robots. He loves us unconditionally and He’s not forcing us to love Him back. He wants us to love Him with all our heart.

If we die without the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, we will be separated from Him for all eternity and there is no excuse. “For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20

God does not play favoritism. “For there is no respect of persons with God.” (Romans 2:11)

Dear friends, I encourage you to come to the Lord. Just admit you are a sinner and you need the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior. He will save you and He will take you home in heaven to be with Him forever.
