West Nile Virus Outbreak

The worst ever outbreak of West Nile virus in the United States, infecting more than 1590 and killing 65 persons as of August 28, 2012, tripled in just two weeks, which makes this year the largest mosquito-carried infection since 1999, when this infection was detected for the first time in the USA, now involving 48 states. Fifty-six percent (889 cases) were neuro-invasive. This was reported by the US-CDC’s division of vector-borne diseases. Continue reading
