A Watergate Scandal In The Making For Obama And Democrats?

by Don Azarias

Are the brewing political issues, with the same magnitude as the Watergate political scandal, in the making? No matter how President Barack Obama and the Democrats try to suppress and make them go away, they keep coming back like the proverbial bad penny.
First, let’s turn back the clock to August 9, 1974, when the world was shaken to its foundation when then leader of the free world, President Richard M. Nixon, resigned in disgrace after a never-ending political onslaught from the Democrats. And, of course, it was accomplished with the help of the same liberal mainstream media that continues to flaunt its self-righteousness up to this very day.
And Nixon’s transgression? He was accused of covering up what occurred on June 17, 1972 when five men were arrested for breaking and entering into the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters at the Watergate Hotel complex in Washington, D.C.
During its investigation, the Senate Watergate Committee revealed that President Nixon had a tape-recording system in his offices and recordings from these tapes implicated the president, revealing he had attempted to cover up the questionable and illegal activities that had taken place during his administration, both before and after the break-in.
There was no turning back. And facing near-certain impeachment in the House of Representatives and a strong possibility of a conviction in the Senate, Nixon had no choice but to resign the presidency. And the rest is history.
Now, in a karma-like situation, come the scandals that are proving problematic to the Obama administration: (1) The last September’s fatal attacks on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, (2) The targeting of conservative tax-exempt applicants by the IRS and (3) The Justice Department’s broad subpoena of Associated Press (AP) phone records.
The first scandal where US Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were killed indicated a cover up of what actually happened. ABC News has obtained State Department e-mails showing that official talking points on the attack were revised 12 times after which the final version was distributed to Congress and to US Ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice, before she appeared on five talk shows the Sunday after that attack.
As the American people were led to believe, the Obama administration claimed that the attack on Benghazi was linked to Muslim anger at an Internet video denigrating Islam—which had sparked a violent demonstration and attack on the U.S. embassy in Cairo. There was no such demonstration in Benghazi. It was a lie concocted by the Obama administration in order to hide the real truth.
Rice and others eventually acknowledged that the Benghazi assault was a premeditated terrorist attack. Republicans say her Sept. 16 televised remarks were just the start of administration efforts to mislead Americans about what happened.
The public can draw its own conclusion that the Obama administration and its Democratic allies are trying hard to sweep this issue under the rug because the incident happened less than two months before President Barack Obama’s re-election to avoid public perception that he failed in his fight against terrorism while Hillary Clinton was his secretary of state.
The second scandal came to light when an IRS official revealed at a meeting of tax lawyers that the agency had inappropriately singled out Tea Party movement and other conservative groups for extra examination of their claims for tax-exempt status. The group feel that they were discriminated against by getting special scrutiny from federal authorities.
It was determined that the targeting began in 2010, shortly after the emergence of the conservative Tea Party movement, which helped Republicans, in the election that year, pick up seats in the Senate and control of the House of Representatives.
Congressional Republicans are making allegations that the Obama administration is using the IRS to go after its political opponents and certain groups perceived as hostile to the White House. The GOP claims that the IRS is checking out conservative groups without applying the same type of scrutiny to liberal groups.
Make no mistake, this is the same oppressive and tyrannical federal agency, called the IRS, that always go after tax-burdened middle class taxpayers, like you and me. Its power is so overreaching that it prompted a disgusted liberal lawmaker, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-Rhode Island), to say: “Picking on the little guy is a pretty lousy thing to do.”
In the third scandal, it is believed that Obama’s Justice Department sought AP’s records to find the source of a leak that informed an AP story about a failed terrorist attack. However, the Justice Department didn’t tell AP what it was doing until two months after it obtained the records. This is in complete violation of the Justice Department guidelines for subpoena issuance.
The spirit of the First Amendment enshrined in the U.S. Constitution, as intended by the Founding Fathers, was meant to protect the freedom of the press and the citizens’ right to a free speech. However, the Obama administration’s unlawful investigation of a major news agency, like the Associated Press, is a blatant abuse of power by the executive branch of the federal government.
Obama and the Democrats are really on a bind and they just have to come clean because these issues are not going to go away. And I don’t believe that it’s asking to much for a president who, during his 2008 campaign, had promised the American voters transparency and accountability in his administration.
In 2016, the Democrats—except, maybe, Vice President Joe Biden, who has his eyes on the White House himself—will do everything to prevent these debacles, especially the Benghazi scandal, from being resurrected so they won’t hurt Hillary Clinton’s chances of winning the presidency.
And, by the way, Joe, be a team player, will you? You can seek reelection as Clinton’s vice president. Never mind that you have the habit of putting your foot in your mouth or shooting yourself in the foot. The Republicans and the American public will always find your act truly entertaining.
