Actress Maricar Reyes and singer Richard Poon has tied the knot.
Reyes and Poon were married in a well attended Christian wedding of friends and relatives last week at the Belleview Hotel in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
The two, however, are not in a hurry to have children.
Interviewed by Korina Sanchez on ABS-CBN News, Maricar said they just want to enjoy each other’s company first before starting a family.
“We want to know each other na kami na lang dalawa muna. Ideally, we’d like a year together at least,” she said.
Poon and Reyes recounted that they first met in 2009 when the singer’s manager invited the actress to be part of Poon’s music video. Since then, they said they began dating until they finally got engaged in 2012.
Poon told Korina Sanchez, it was his idea to just keep the wedding small gathering.
“We designed it that way. We talked to a lot of couples and they said, ‘You either go big or small. Huwag kang middle. We chose the small group,” he said.
Explaining the decision, Poon said he has attended and performed in a lot of weddings and saw many guests who were not comfortable with each other because they knew not much about each other, “Sometimes I look at the couple and alam ko ‘yung ilang nila na maybe a hundred of those guests are business partners of their relatives pero alam kong hindi sila masyadong kumportable kasi hindi nila masyado kilala,” he told Korina.
Poon and Reyes said they wanted the occasion to be solemn and intimate.
The interview with the couple by Korina was also reported on ABS-CBN and its website.
In the interview, Korina asked what for her the most memorable part of wedding and Reyes ready answer: “Ang dami. Gusto ko ‘yung pagdating ko sa altar tapos he shook my parents hands tapos nag-kiss siya sa mom and dad ko tapos nag-join na kami sa altar.”
She added: “Doon lang naging real. During preparations kasi, may fittings, may make up, I felt na para lang akong nagtratrabaho. Yung brain ko minsan iniisip niya na work lang. It really dawned on me lang talaga nung binigay na ako sa altar.”
The singer told Korina his favorite moment was when Reyes emerged and was revealed in the ceremony.
“The music was right. Somebody whispered at my back, best man ko yata, sabi ‘Chard parang anghel na pumapasok.’ I was looking at her walking down the aisle, sobrang ganda niya,” he said.
The singer said he considers himself “very lucky” as he vowed he will forever take care of his wife as expressed in the lyrics of the song during their first dance.
“First dance namin was ‘I’ll Take Care of You.’ It means a lot sa kanya kasi siyempre all girls naman are looking for that one guy who not just loves them but will stay and take care of them. Because women are naturally magaling mag-alaga ng lalaki so naghahanap din kayo ng mag-aalaga,” he said.
