World boxing icon Manny Pacquiao’s return to the boxing arena it seems will no longer be September but either the first week or second week of October.
And the venue of his comeback fight is either the Venetian in Macau or Singapore.
This means that a fight in Manila is now being ruled out.
But who Pacquiao will face is still to be decided.
Top Rank’s Bob Arum made known his plans for the fighting congressman of Sarangani recently and top journalist Ronnie Nathanielsz reported about it in Manila Standard.
In the report, the possible opponent of Pacquiao will only be known sometime this week.
Arum earlier made pitch for a fifth Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez bout after the Filipino champion was knocked down by his Mexican nemesis at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas last Dec. 8.
But Marquez has been harping he no longer wants to fight Pacquiao and lately, he indicated that he wants undefeated Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley Jr. for his next opponent.
Bradley, who had defeated Pacquiao in a controversial fight in Las Vegas, said he
Bradley, who will be part of the TV panel covering the Nonito Donaire-Guillermo Rigondeaux title fight for Top Rank on Saturday, told the Manila Standard and ABS-CBN: “I would love to fight Marquez first. He beat Manny, I beat him. I love his style. He is a legend and would love to add his name to my resume. If I beat Marquez, it would give me the greatness I’m looking for in my career.”
Bradley said he is ready for “anything big out there.”
“I am up for any challenge. I would definitely like to fight Pacquiao. It will be a great fight. This time, I will grind it out. I will stand up and fight him toe-to-toe. Marquez or Pacquiao, either one. It doesn’t matter,” he added.
Bradley confidently predicted that if he faces Pacquiao in a rematch, “I’m going to win, absolutely.”
Meantime, Arum disclosed that mandatory World Boxing Organization flyweight challenger Milan Melindo will fight newly crowned champion Juan Francisco Estrada, who won the WBO and World Boxing Association titles from Brian Viloria at the Cotai Arena inside the Venetian Resort Hotel in Macau on July 27 in the main event.
He said the Penalosa brothers, who both scored impressive stoppage victories, along with Melindo last weekend in Macau, would also see action on the card, alongside another Filipino fighter.
