PHL Navy deploys 34 warships to Tawi-Tawi

MANILA — The Philippine Navy (PN) has deployed 34 warships to patrol the country’s maritime territory off Tawi-Tawi and assist in the humanitarian efforts for Filipino families displaced by the ongoing fighting in Sabah.
“(Our)vessels’ distribution is not too thin. We have more than enough vessels to cover the country,” PN spokesperson Lt. Cmdr. Gregory Fabic said.
He added that the Navy can be flexible to realign its assets depending on the situation and missions or tasks that requires prioritization.
Earlier, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) announced that the PN has deployed additional ships to the waters near Tawi-Tawi and its adjoining provinces of Basilan and Sulu.
The total PN vessels deployed in the area are now at 34 or 11 ships higher than the 25 earlier reported.
These will be used in the government’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to aid those families displaced by the fighting in Sabah and now sheltering particularly in Tawi-Tawi.
The ships are currently performing maritime security patrols and are providing humanitarian assistance for the evacuees from Sabah.
