Pacquiao wants to fight in Manila

MANILA – When he returns to the ring this September, world boxing icon Manny Pacquiao wants to do it infront of his countrymen in Manila.
The fighting congressman made the disclosure as he ruled out an early return bout in April.
Pacquiao’s promoters have been convincing Mexican warrior Juan Manuel Marquez to fight Pacquiao for a record fifth time, but the Mexican has been claiming that he need not fight the Filipino champion again.

Marquez earlier announced that he was retiring from boxing, but he changed his mind when his wife allowed him to fight again, probably one or two.
Bob Arum of Top Rank said he believes Marquez will fight Pacquiao again, given his possible hefty earnings from the fight.
Arum said it would be foolish for Marquez to turn his back on a multi-million dollar fight purse.
“As long as he’s fighting, he’s not a fool. Of course he’s going to fight Manny rather than fight somebody for a lot less money,” Arum said in the Philippine Star.
The Mexican received a guaranteed $6 million from his fourth bout with Pacquiao, when he knocked out the Filipino superstar in six rounds.
Pacquiao’s handlers were also reported to be reaching out to the camp of undefeated American champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. to arrange a possible fight in Dubai.
ABS-CBN, according to retired boxer Jeff Mayweather, uncle of the unbeaten American boxer, Pacquiao’s camp has been asking for his help to set up the elusive superfight.
“I’ve been contacted by Manny’s people, personally and now they want the fight,” said the elder Mayweather in Pro Boxing.
Pacquiao is looking to rebound from his sixth round knockout defeat to  Marquez.
Marquez appears reluctant to give Pacquiao another rematch, prompting the Filipino boxer to look for an alternative opponent.
Mayweather believes Pacquiao’s camp is pressed on arranging the super fight with Floyd, while it remains “marketable.”
“They know that if it doesn’t happen now it won’t be worth anything. I got text messages from his advisor so it’s a situation where I will talk to Floyd to see if that fight can potentially be made,” he was quoted by ABS-CBN as saying.
Mayweather added that Pacquiao can no longer demand a hefty fight purse from Floyd especially after the Filipino’s KO loss.
“They don’t have a position so they would either need to take what was offered or there wouldn’t be a fight.”
Since Pacquiao no longer wants to fight in the US because of high taxes, Mayweather believes they could stage the bout in the Middle East.
“More than likely it would probably be Dubai, there is a whole load more money in Dubai so the chances are it would probably be there.”
Floyd earlier tweeted that negotiations are ongoing for his ring return on May 4.
He claimed that IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander is the front runner among his possible opponents.
