Jennifer Lopez wows Pinoys in sold-out Manila concert

PASAY CITY – The world’s top celebrity Jennifer Lopez has taken Manila by storm as she wowed a jampacked and sold-out crowd of Filipinos, many of them celebrities themselves, at her concert at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Nov. 27.
Among those in the crowd were Philippine senators led by Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago Antonio Trillanes and Manuel B. Villar Jr.,  whose company, Vista Land, was one of the big sponsors of the show considered as one of the most expensive concert shows in the Philippines with some seats at P25,000. Lopez reportedly got  $3 million (P120 million) talent fee for the show.
JLo herself was impressed with the crowed in the 20,000-seats capacity arena.

She said on Twitter after her one-night stand before flying to Hong Kong for another show: “Thank you MANILA! To all the Filipino LOVE!RS who came out tonight…Mahal Kita #untilnexttime #DanceAgainWorldTour2012.”
JLo immediately became a trending topic on Twitter as everyone raved about her spectacular production numbers, the glamorous, glittery costumes, the generous serving of greatest hits, the bonus participation by a member of the appreciative audience and, oh, those amazing, well-toned fortysomething abs, according to a TV5 Interaksyon report.
Aside from the senators, celebrities who saw the show and tweeted afterwards on their impressions included Sharon Cuneta, Anne Curtis, Raymond Gutierrez, Richard Gomez, Boy Abunda, Annabelle Rama, Ruffa Gutierrez, Marian Rivera, Karen Davila, Daniel Matsunaga, Jessy Mendiola and beauty queense led by newly crowned Miss Earth 2012 Tereza Fajksova of the Czech Republic and her court and Miss World Philippines Queenierich Rehman and her court.
One of the senators who saw the concert, Miriam Defensor Santiago, however, said she was not impressed with the show.
“I’m strictly a high brow girl. I like classical music opera and ballet particularly abroad. I went for exposure, total immersion. i was shocked beyond belief at the attack, assault on my ears,” Santiago said.
“It was so loud and there were so many people and they stirred themselves into a frenzy. They were worshipping at the foot of someone who was no longer human, they transformed her, she morphed into a digital idol,” she said.
“Let me just say I was not impressed. I have no ambition to becoming a sex kitten or assaulting people to deafness,” the lady senator said.
According to ABS-CBN Senator Villar and his the family had the rare opportunity of meeting pop superstar Jennifer Lopez at the backstage before the show.
With the senator and his wife, former congresswoman Cynthia, were children Paolo, Mark and Camille.
Vista Land, the property company owned by the Villar family, is one of major sponsors of Lopez’s concert. Paolo Villar is chief executive officer of Vista Land, while Senator Villar is the company chairman.
According to the network, several news reports indicated Lopez received a $3 million (P130 million) as a talent fee for the one-night concert. There was no confirmation, however, on the matter.
JLo is one of the highest paid celebrities in Hollywood. She ranked number 1 in annual Forbes Celebrity 100 list last May with $52 million in earnings over the last 12 months.
The actress-singer reportedly received a $20 million contract for her second season on American Idol. In the past year, she also signed endorsement deals with L’Oreal, Gillette, Fiat and TOUS jewelry, as well as launched a Jennifer Lopez line of clothing for Kohl’s.
Actress and talent manger Annabelle Rama, who saw the concert with her busband Eddie, sons Raymond and Richard and daughter Ruffa, said she was a big fan of Jennifer.
Anne Curtis tweeted not having tickets but later thanks MOA Arena for getting her into the show co-produced by Vista Land.
Other celebrities spotted at the show were Kim Chiu, Kris Bernal, Isabelle Daza, Divine Lee, Victor Basa, Sarah Lahbati and Richard Gutierrez.
Broadcast journalist Karen Davila was all praised for show as she reported on her radio and television programs.
