Megastar Sharon Cuneta is in the headlines again.
No, not about her success as the better half of Sen. Francis Pangilinan and a mother to their kids, but her success in her showbiz career.
The singer-actress-television host got the big boost to her following when she hosted ABS-CBN’s first edition of the show “Pinoy Big Loser,” a program about heavy women and men and how they lost their weights in the Biggest Loser Camp.
Sharon took center stage with the first winner of the show, Larry Martin, 36, a former Camarines Sur policeman, who lost 101 pounds for participating in the weight-loss program of the show.
Larry was formerly 255 pounds and after the show, he eventually lost 39.61% of his weight, besting several finalists, coming in at 154 pounds.
For his feat, Larry was awarded by ABS-CBN a hefty prize that included P1 million in cash, a DMCI condominium unit, a Vespa scotter, a 40-inch Sony Bravia Internet television set, Whirlpool appliances, P100,000 worth of saloon services and a life-time free entrance to one of the country’s fitness centers. Sharon and co-host actor Derek Ramsay, who is a fitness buff himself, presented the prizes together with ABS-CBN president Charo Santos-Concio.
During the awarding ceremonies, he expressed interest in rejoining the police force, saying his resigned in 1999 because he could not meet the 34-inch waistline ordered by then PNP chief Panfilo Lacson.
And it seems that he got this best prize yet when PNP chief, Director General Nicanor A. Bartolome, announced after their meeting that he will turn Larry as the PNP poster boy when it comes to weight reduction and fitness training.
Biggest Loser winner Larry Martin said it is an honor for him to personally meet with Gen. Bartolome who is known for having a fit body as a result of his regular physical fitness program.
The former Police Officer 1 said he ballooned into a 255-pounder jobless man until he joined the hit ABS-CBN reality show where he battled it out with other heavyweights for the crown starting last May.
Last Saturday, Larry emerged as the winner of the contest after weighing only 154 pounds in the last weigh-in made in front of a live audience. The awarding ceremonies were held at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
