CONSUL GENERAL MEETS WITH CONGRESSMAN PETER ROSKAM TO SEEK SUPPORT FOR SAVE ACT


Consul General Leo M. Herrera-Lim met with Representative Peter Roskam on Tuesday, 17 August 2011 at the latter’s district office in Bloomingdale to seek the Congressman’s support for the SAVE Act.

Rep. Roskam represents the 6th District of Illinois under the Republican Party and is a member of the Ways and Means Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives, where the proposed trade legislation is now pending.

The Consul General was accompanied by Vice Consul Alena S. Borra, Ms. Aurora Bayron (Trade Assistant, PTIC – Chicago), and Mr. Ron Sorini (SAVE Act Consultant, Sorini, Samet & Associates, LLC). The following members of the local Filipino-American community completed the delegation: Ms. Jelly Carandang (Chairperson, NaFFAA-IL), Mr. Adrian Tabangay (President, PACCGC), Ms. Adeline Fajardo (Overall Chairperson, Philippine Week Committee 2011 and constituent of Rep. Roskam), and Ms. Grace Garcia.

During the meeting, Consul General Lim briefed Rep. Roskam about the economic benefits of the SAVE Act to both the U.S. and the Philippines, then handed over a bundle of petition letters expressing support for the SAVE Act collected from the Congressman’s Filipino-American constituents.
