ShareThisFilipino American boxing champion Nonito Donaire Jr. has agreed to re-sign with Top Rank.
And his new deal will be for four years, according to Cameron Dunkin, Donaire’s manager.
The reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) champion had a falling out four months ago with Top Rank after joining rival Golden Boy Promotions while still under contract with the company led by Bob Arum.
Top Rank president Todd duBoef brokered the agreement together with the 28-year-old Donaire and his wife, Rachel.
“Nonito signed what’s basically a four-year deal, so he’s going to be around with Top Rank for a while,” said Dunkin.
Donaire left Top Rank for Golden Boy shortly after scoring a sensational second round knockout of Mexican Fernando Montiel at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
A resident of San Leandro, California, Donaire insisted his contract with Top Rank was over, although Arum said the old deal will not expire until next year since the Filipino was injured and not fought for a period of six months, thereby extending the duration of the agreement.
An independent arbiter eventually, ruled that Top Rank still has the promotional rights on Donaire.
