Dacer family seeks SC reconsideration vs Lacson in slays

MANILA -– The camp of the Dacer family has filed before the Supreme Court a motion for reconsideration (MR), seeking to include anew Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson as one of the accused in the abduction-slay of publicist Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito in November 2000.

The crime was allegedly committed by elements of the defunct Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force (PAOCTF) headed by then Philippine National Police (PNP) chief and now Senator Lacson.

It can be recalled that the SC denied on June 14, 2011 the motion of the Dacer family to consider their petition for review of the decision of the Court of Appeals (CA) dismissing the double-murder case against Lacson and nullifying the arrest warrant against him issued by the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 18.

The SC ruled that only the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) can represent the State in criminal proceedings as the Dacer family is not the real party involved in the case.

The OSG, which is an attached agency of the Department of Justice (DOJ), did not anymore file an MR on the dismissal of the murder charges against the senator.

Instead, the DOJ opted for a reinvestigation of the Dacer-Corbito double-murder case in order to “ferret out the truth” and unravel the real “mastermind” in the killings.

In a 36-page MR, the Dacer family asked the highest court of the land for the revival of the two counts of murder charges against Lacson.

The petitioners urged the SC to grant their petition in the sense that they were denied the opportunity to prove their case against the senator.
