ShareThisQUEZON CITY — Yes, it’s still officially summer in the Philippines but already two storms hit the country and another one is expected this month of May.
“Bebeng,” the latest typhoon, killed at least 13 persons in its path along the Pacific coast in Visayas and Luzon, including Metro Manila. Several persons were also reported missing.
Nine of the fatalities are from the worst-hit Bicol region, two from the Eastern Visayas, and one each from Metro Manila and Central Luzon.
The typhoon triggered floods and landslides, power interruption and cancellation of airline flights and those of ships and boats. Hundreds of people were stranded in the process.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said some sections of Luzon and Batanes will experience cloudy skies and scattered rainshowers in the coming days.
It was in Tuguegarao City in Cagayan and in Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija which registered the hottest temperature of 39.5 degrees Celsius during the past weeks. Metro Manila, on the other hand, sizzled at record 36.5 degrees Celsius until battered by the typhoon over the weekend.
The weather bureau said climate maybe cooler in the days ahead, but there is no official declaration of the start of the rainy season yet, because of lack of continues rains for several days.
