FilAm Bruno Mars conquers Cebu, Manila


Bruno Mars conquers Philippines. Grammy Award winner says Filipina may conquer his heart. Grammy Award-winning Filipino-American hitmaker has conquerred Cebu, Manila and the Philippines.

Bruno, whose real name is Peter Gene Hernandez, performed to sell-out and explosive crowds at the  Waterfront Hotel and Casino Resort in Cebu City and later at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.

Among those who were at the crowd and came home very impressed were actress and television hosts Kris Aquino and Ruffa Gutierrez and tv host and promoter Boy Abunda and actor Marvin Agustin.

Kris and Ruffa came in without any partners like erstwhile presidential brother-in-law James Yap who got his tickets to the show as birthday gift from Kris.

Bruno, whose Filipina singer-mother came all the way from the United States to see his show, electrified the crowds with his songs like “Just the Way You Are,” “Grenade” and “Billionaire.”

Bruno said he is proud to have Filipino blood and he is  happy to perform before fellow Pinoys. 

More Filipinos were electrified no end when he disclosed during interviews after his shows that he is single and that his heart may fall for a Filipina.

“Filipinos love to sing so when I grew up there, I love to sing. I hope the audience picks that up,” Bruno said in a television interview.

He added: “Bruno Mars is single. Oh man! One day a Filipino girl will make my heart beat.”

Carmi Cavanlit, reporting for ABS-CBN in Cebu, quoted Bruno as qualifying what he thinks would attract him.

“Beauty is within,” he said. “Walk around like you’re amazing. Walk around like you are beautiful… it’s the confidence that exudes from their bodies.”

Bruno said he wants to show off the Pinoy talent.

“I’m working hard and I hope to continue to make you guys proud,” he said.

The Grammy-award winning singer came to the country also  to promote his album, “Doo-Wops & Hooligans.” 

Playing an electric guitar, Bruno jumpstarted his Araneta Coliseum concert with the excellent “The Other Side,” from his EP, “It’s Better If You Don’t Understand.” 

Bruno also sung “Top Of The World,” also from his EP, to the delight of the crowd, many of whom sang with him.

His other songs that delighted the crowd were “Smells Like Teen Spirit,”  Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean,” the White Stripe’s “Seven Nation Army” and  “Marry You,” from “Doo-wops and Hooligans.”

The Araneta Coliseum crowd also loved his “Liquor Store Blues,” which he originally performed on record with Bob Marley’s son, Damian, and “Nothin’ on You,” which he dedicated to “all beautiful Filipinas.”

Bruno won the Best Male Vocal Performance at the last Grammy Awards with his biggest hit song “Just the Way You Are” which he sung with gusto to the delight of the crowd.
