Binay tops Aquino in popularity ratings


MANILA – Vice President Jejomar Binay has eclipsed President Benigno S. Aquino III in popularity ratings based ona new Pulse Asia survey.

Binay emerged as the most trusted and appreciated official of the government in the Feb. 24-March 6  survey while Chief Justice Renato Corona came up as the most disapproved and distrusted.

At least 83 percent of the 1,200 respondents covered by the survey said they appreciated Binay’s efforts while 81 percent trusted him. These numbers were 5 and 3 percentage points higher than his performance (78 percent) and trust (78 percent) ratings in Pulse’s 2010 last quarter survey. His disapproval rating and distrust ratings remained unchanged at 3 percent.

President Aquino got 74 percent for performance and 75 percent in trust ratings in the survey, each registering a drop of 5 percentage points.

Aquino’s disapproval rating went up to 7 percent in March from 3 percent in October, as well as his distrust rating which reached 6 percent from 2 percent in the last quarter.

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile’s approval and performance rating went down by one percentage point from 61 percent to 60 percent, while Speaker Feliciano Belmonte’s approval and performance rating which went up by five percentage point to 50 percent. 

Both Enrile and Belmonte’s disapproval rating went up to 10 percent (from 8 percent) and 12 percent (from 11 percent), respectively. Their disapproval ratings also rose to 13 percent (from 8 percent), and 18 percent (from 15 percent), respectively.

Enrile’s trust rating remained the same at 56 percent while Belmonte’s went up to 43 percent in March from 39 percent in October.
