Ai Ai ready to wait for Box-Office Queen crown

Is she or is she not?

The question refers to Ai-ai delas Alas being crowned as Box-Office Queen by a group involved in showbiz.

Earlier reports indicated that Ai-Ai, the best actress in the 2010 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), was a shoo-in for the Box Office Queen crown to be conferred by the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation (GMMSFI), Inc. this year.

The foundation, however, clarified later that its officers were still in the process of selecting the new Box Office Queen and King and the results maybe known only after the Holy Week yet.

It can recalled that in 2009, Ai-ai lost the Box Office Queen title to pop star Sarah Geronimo who starred in the blockbuster movie  “A Very Special Love.”

Ai-ai was considered in 2009 for the crown for her top grossing movie sequel “Ang Tanging Ina N’yong Lahat.”

Ai-ai said she was ready if indeed the crown was not meant for her.

“Pag ganun, parang napagod na ako, siguro sa bahay na lang ako. Siyempre lahat naman ng mga tao, gusto ng recognition or award. Pero kung hindi para sa akin, okay lang,” the actress was quoted by PEP as saying in an interview.

On March 15, news broke that Ai-ai has been selected the new Box Office Queen while actors Vic Sotto and Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla were Box Office Kings for their collaboration movie, “Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote,” which was the top grosser in the  last Metro filmfest.

Whoever will be declared winner, Ai-ai said she was ready to celebrate.

“Ang importante, alam naman ng mga tao ang totoo,” she said.

Ai-ai disclosed that  her management agency, Boy Abunda’s Backroom Inc., had asked her to reserve May 8 when GMMSFI will crown its Box Office Queen and King.

For Toni Gonzaga, the star of the top-grossing movie “My Amnesia Girl,”  the comedienne deserves the Box-Office Queen title.

Hearing of Toni’s statement, Ai-ai said: “Alam mo ‘yang si Celestine [delas Alas’ pet name for Toni], mahal ko ‘yang batang ‘yan. Anak ko ‘yan sa ‘Ang Tanging Pamilya.’ Thank you naman Celestine, I love you so much!”
