BACOLOD CITY – Reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) Minimum weight titleholder Donnie “Ahas” Nietes (27-1-3, 15 KOs) is moving up weight in the 108 lbs (Light Flyweight) to face Mexican Armando Vasquez (18-5, 4 KOs) in the main event of “Pinoy Pride 5: Battle of Champions” on April 9, 2011 at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum, Bacolod City.
Nietes’ fight will serve as his tune up match for taking a crack at the title of WBO Light Flyweight champion Giovanni Segura (26-1-1 22Kos) in July.
Under the ALA Promotions headed by its president Michael Aldeguer, Nietes said he will do his best before his province mates to win the fight.
RP Philippine Flyweight champion Arthur ‘El Matador’ Villanueva of Bago City under Top Prime Stable of Rev. Henry Guanzon will take on Phl No. 3 Mark Anthony “El Heneral” Geraldo (19-3-2 10 KOs) of Malaybalay, Bukidnon in the undercard.
Villanueva (15-0 11 KOs) successfully defended his belt against Samuel Apuya last February 27, 2011 at the Casino Filipino Hotel in Bacolod City.
