Popular television and movie actress and host and presidential sister Kris Aquino is poised to throw her hat in politics.
In fact, the controversial actress and tv host once disclosed that she will be running for governor of Tarlac in 2013.
Then, she amended her statement, saying she will only go into politics after ther brother, President Benigno Aquino III, shall have finished his term by 2016.
This means that she will run in the 2016 elections.
To bolster this belief, she held a medical mission in Tarlac two days before her 40th birthday this February and is set to hold similar missions in Batangas with Governor Vilma Santos-Recto and also in another place.
But is it for governor of Tarlac or something else?
If the source of showbiz authority Ethel Ramos is to be believed, she will gun for a higher position – either presidency or senatorship just like her brother and late father Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr.
The source said that Kris Aquino will definitely run for public office.
The source said Kris will not run for anything lower than a senatorial position. Her mindset is that she easily won for her brother Noynoy the presidency, how could it be any harder for her to win a seat for herself?
In fact, the source said Kris is even toying with the idea of running for president.
Ethel Ramos reported in her latest column that this is why she has been eyeing either a politician or a media person for her next partner, after separating from her husband, the basketball star James Yap.
She added: “Remember she is being linked to the likes of Makati Mayor Junjun Binay and ABS-CBN news anchor Ted Failon? Kris reasons, according to the source, are widowers anyway, and as soon as her marriage is annulled, then she can be free to marry again.”
Another showbiz authority, columnist and talent manager Shirley Pizzaro also reported that Kris “has indeed set her sights for a public position come 2016.”
Quiting a source, she reported that “Kris running for office in the next national elections has become a definite move.”
“It’s just that she still has to test the waters before deciding whether to run for Senator or for another position. As of now, she is more inclined to seek a position not lower than that of a Senator.,” she added.
Reacting to Kris being linked to Mayor Binay and Ted Failon to be able to reach her goal in politics, Pizzaro also wrote: “In that light, we dare say that Kris’s estranged husband James Yap would have come in handy, if we are talking of the same purpose.”
She added: “If Kris didn’t decide to dump James, the basketball superstar would as much as easily draw crowds for her. Add that to the public perception of a solid and stable family and presto.”
Kris celebrated her 40th birthday last February 14 at her condo with brother, President Benigno Aquino III, sisters and close friends in showbiz, business and politics and relatives.
Reports from the birthday celebration showed that among those who greeted her were Mayor Binay and her husband James Yap himself who gave her a golden bracelet as his gift with their son James Jr.
On Twitter, Kris was quoted as saying that she was “touched by the gesture” of James.
“He + bimby bought me a lovely bracelet w/ a heartwarming card. Josh & Bimby loved riding in James’ car. I rode in my own to give them time together,” Kris said.
She said her birthday wish was for she and James to have legal freedom. She said: “I want freedom (annulment of marriage to cager James Yap). Gusto ko na legally matapos na para maging malaya na kami ni James (at) makahanap ng kaligayahan na hindi namin nabigay sa isa’t isa.”
James himself celebrated his birthday on February 15.
She also said on Twitter: “By the way, I’m allowed a wish right? I wish James & I the legal freedom to be able to love again and share with new lifelong partners the love we failed to sustain between us.
Bimby gave him a red BB Torch & I gave him 2 Bruno Mars VIP tickets for him & his date for April 8. Happy birthday to him on Feb 15.”
Her brother, President Aquino, also made known his wish for sister Kris – a life free of problems.
The President said he noticed that Kris looked happy during her advance birthday celebration on February 13..
“Alam ninyo magkasama kami noong isang araw, meron siyang birthday celebration. Parang napakagaan ng dating niya, napakasaya niya. Siyempre, sabi ko sa kanya, ipinagdarasal ko na sana tuloy tuloy ang kagaanan ng loob mo, parang absence of problems di ba, tsaka ‘yong talagang pagiging masaya,” President Aquino said.
A day earlier, Kris conducted a free medical and dental mission in Tarlac where she is reportedly preparing for the 2013 elections to become the governor of the province which her late father, Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and her grandfather had served also as governor.
Kris denied that the medical mission was already part of her preparations for the elections, saying it is her birthday gift to the people of Tarlac who have been very supportive of her family.
Kris will also conduct another medical mission in Leyte and in Batangas with Gov. Vilma Santos Recto.
Kris said she may join politics, but only after the term of President Aquino in 2016.
Kris has a new game show on ABS-CBN. It is “The Price is Right” which premiered last week.
Kris said major prizes such as brand new car, a condominium unit and P1 million would be given away in her show.
She added: “Alam ko kung gaano kamahal ang binayad ng ABS-CBN para mabili ang ‘The Price is Right’ and alam ko rin na ngayon pa lang ang laki-laki na ng ginastos para pagandahin ‘yong set kasi maraming hydraulics and madaming wini-wheel in so it’s really such a complicated set-up and I’m really really excited to be doing it.”
