3 persons die in road mishap at the Skyway

TAGUIG CITY — Three persons were killed in a freak accident on Tuesday morning when a speeding ambulance that was supposed to bring one of the victims to a Manila hospital for treatment rammed a toll booth at the north-bound lane of the Skyway in Taguig City.

Skyway Vice President Eduardo Nepomuceno identified the fatalities as Felix Soler, Rio Panganiban and Rosalinda Asis while four others, including the driver of the ambulance, were hurt.

Soler was the patient in the ambulance being rushed to Manila when the accident happened.

Panganiban succumbed to severe injuries at the said hospital, while Asis was declared dead on arrival at the Makati Medical Center (MMC).

Initial investigation showed that the accident took place at about 7 a.m. when the ambulance, with plate number RAZ-844 that came from Lipa City, Batangas and bound for a Paranaque hospital, rammed a portion of toll booth number 6 injuring teller Maylyn Butaldo.

Butaldo was later discharged from the hospital after undergoing first-aid treatment for a wound in the forehead and arm.
