Baguio braces for cooler days

BAGUIO CITY– Oops! Baguio and the Cordilleras are now bracing for cooler days ahead.

This as the oscillation of the Siberian winds from the snowing north pole to this mountain resort has started and bring again cooler temperatures, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Wilson Locando, one of the weather forecasters here, said the start of winter in the countries like China, Russia and Vietnam was noticed since last week.

It was the same period when residents in Sagada, Mountain Province noticed the continuous arrival of migratory birds, which arrive in that part of the Cordillera mountain ranges at a period when the region also have cooler temperatures but has very minimal rainfall.

Since last week, the lowest temperatures in this mountain resort 250 kilometers north of Manila has already dropped to 13 to 14 degrees celsius.

However, the lowest temperatures at this period are still way up to the lowest temperature of 7.9 degrees celsius recorded this year in the morning of Jan. 15, 2010.

Records show that the coldest temperature ever recorded here was 6.3 degrees celsius in the morning of Jan. 18, 1961.

It was followed by a 6.7 degrees celsius in the morning of Feb. 28, 1963.
