Shalani gets a taste of showbiz

‘Some bitchy folks criticize even Shalani’s looks, saying she looks plain on TV she should get a stylist, preferably Liz Uy’

Former presidential girlfriend Shalani Soledad has rejoined television.

Shalani Soledad

From a UNTV reporter, she is now a co-host of the popular Willie Revillame’s daily nightly show on TV5.

This early, Shalani, a councilor of Valenzuela City, is drawing big followers.

Yet, there are also those criticizing her and trying to bring her down.

This criticism has made her realize how mean showbiz can be.

For instance, her detractors say she agreed to be on TV so she could use it this early in her ambition for a higher position in the next election.

It can be recalled that before the last election, she was being considered for a congressional run but eventually settled for reelection as councilor.

Other critics said Shalani consented to be with Willie Revillame, a supporter of presidential candidate Sen. Manny Villar Jr., mainly to spite her former boyfriend, President Benigno S. Aquino III.

In all fairness, President Aquino issued a statement saying he wishes her well in her new career as television host, according to respected columnist Mario Bautista who discussed Shahani’s new role in his latest column.

He added that Willie himself had said that she only agreed to be his co-host because he promised her she’ll do public service with her own segment in the show.

Shalani’s reply: “Hanggang ngayon, hindi pa rin ako makapaniwala that I’m also here. Pero noon hong kinausap kami ni Willie, naramdaman ko ang sincerity ng offer niya. This is not about him or me but more on kung ano ang magagawa para sa tao.”

Shalani also disclosed that Willie had told him a joke: “Don’t fall in love with me.”

But what will she do if intrigues start linking them to each other?

“We have a good working relationship, hanggang co-hosts lang kami,” said the comely Valenzuela councilor and tv host.

Bautista noted that Shalani is pitted in the same timeslot against the other ex-girlfriends of President Aquino, namely, anchor Korina Sanchez (TV Patrol) and correspondent Bernadette Sembrano.

“Some bitchy folks criticize even Shalani’s looks, saying she looks plain on TV and that she should get a stylist, preferably Liz Uy, who’s the stylist of Noynoy and rumored to be tying the knot with him next year,” the columnist stated.

Goodluck Shalani.
