Willie Revillame posts P6-M bond at QC court

QUEZON CITY – Embattled television host Willie Revillame posted a surety bond of P 6,153,302, not the P426 million in cash bond as required by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court on Thursday, a day after the October 27 deadline.

Quezon City Regional Trial Court (QCRTC) Branch 84 Judge Luisito Cortez said Revillame’s insurance representatives arrived before him and presented the P 6,153,302 performance bond.

“The bond was officially recorded, documented and processed just yesterday, and not on October 27, the deadline set by the court,” he said.

Cortez said Revillame or his lawyer was not around, but only employers of the Asia Insurance Philippines Corp. represented him.

The controversial former “Wowowee” host posted a P 4-million bond premium, and P 2,153,302 in expanded value-added tax and other miscellaneous fees, he added.

Last September 16, ABS-CBN filed a petition for a temporary restraining order with Branch 84 in a bid to stop Revillame from airing “Willing Willie” on its rival TV5.

Cortez deferred its decision on the TRO, but ordered Revillame to post a performance bond of P 426 million which would answer for any damage ABS-CBN might have suffered with airing of Revillame’s new variety game show.

The controversy began when Revillame challenged the ABS-CBN management to fire showbiz writer and radio host Jobert Sucaldito for allegedly insulting “Wowowee” contestants, or “I’ll quit.”

In August, Revillame revoked his contract with ABS-CBN, but the management maintained he remained bound by his contract until 2011.
