MANILA— A 59- year old American fugitive wanted for fraud cases in Florida has been turned over by the Bureau of Immigration (BI)-Interpol Unit to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Immigration Officer-In-Charge Ronaldo Ledesma identified the fugitive as Roberto Nicol, who was arrested last April after hiding for more than two years in the country.
The foreigner, who was holding an expired passport, was turned over by BI Interpol Executive Officer Rommel Tacorda to US Postal Inspector Cesar Cercenedo upon arrival at the Los Angeles International Airport last October 11.
Nicol was personally escorted to the US by BI Interpol Executive Officer Tacorda on the strength of a summary deportation order issued by the BI’s board of commissioners for being an undocumented alien since the US government had cancelled his US passport.
He was placed in the BI’s blacklist to prevent him from re-entering the country.
BI-Interpol deputy chief for operations Jerome Gabionza said the American was arrested in Baler, Quezon last April after the US Embassy in Manila informed the BI that an outstanding arrest warrant was issued against Nicol by a district court in Florida on Oct. 21, 2008.
He was indicted by the court on charges of committing and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
