Fire razes actress’ house in QC

QUEZON CITY – A fire believed to have been caused by faulty electrical wiring damaged the house of of veteran actress Chin Chin Gutierrez in Loyola Heights, Quezon City before midnight Sunday. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Text Fire Philippines (TFP) said the blaze, which reached second alarm, began 11:30 p.m. Sunday and was placed under control by 12:45 a.m. Monday. No one was reported hurt in the incident.

This is the second time in four years that the same house burned down. The first was in December 2006,
which took the life of Chin Chin’s mother, Cecilia. Gutierrez, in trying to save her mother then, suffered second-degree burns on her hands and feet, as well as some minor burns on her face. Her back was also injured during the accident.

The actress was not home when the latest fire broke out. Her househelp, Laura Pure, gave a first-hand account on how she discovered the fire Gutierrez’ neighbor, singer-composer Jim Paredes, was among the first to arrive in the area. Angela Ureta, Gutierrez’s artist manager, said the actress was attending an out-of-town ecological workshop since Aug. 27. She said Gutierrez only learned about the incident Tuesday morning.
