DAGUPAN CITY — Former President Fidel V. Ramos and other leaders of the sixth district of Pangasinan sought the restoration of two vital Agno River Flood Control projects worth more than P300 million which the present administration of President Benigno Aquino III has sought to scrap after classifying these as among the “midnight deals” of the past administration.

This was disclosed by Ramos’ nephew, Ranjit Shahani, who is a provincial board member of the sixth district of Pangasinan where the supposed “midnight” projects are located, in a talk to newsmen in Dagupan City on Wednesday, August 11. Shahani said these are a flood control project in Sitio Bato, San Vicente, San Manuel town worth P228.7 million which was reportedly handed to contractor Northern Builders and in Barangay Bantog in Ramos’ hometown of Asingan, said to have been won by Tokwin Construction.

The provincial board member, who is former vice governor of Pangasinan and former two-term congressman of the sixth district, said his uncle Fidel asked him to talk to other leaders of the sixth district of Pangasinan so that they can lobby for the restoration of these projects who, Shahani believes, have not yet been started. Shahani said he already talked to Retired Admiral Virgilio Marcelo of San Manuel and Mayor Heidie Chua of Asingan who stressed the need for these projects to be continued so that they can help prevent flood in the eastern part of Pangasinan.
